CHITRAL: Changes introduced by the provincial government in the stamp paper issuance system have multiplied the difficulties of the people, several residents belonging to far-off areas said on Wednesday.

Under the previous system, stamp papers were easily available through registered stamp vendors. However, after the authority was shifted to the Bank of Khyber last year.In Lower Chitral, there is only one branch of the Bank of Khyber, forcing all residents to rely on a single location for obtaining stamp papers. This has created a difficult situation, particularly for people living in remote areas.

The residents from far-flung regions such as Arandu and Garam Chashma have to travel for several hours to reach Chitral town. Upon arrival, they are often required to stand in long queues at the bank.

The situation has worsened further as, according to a bank official who requested anonymity, stamp papers are currently unavailable at the branch. “We sent a demand request for stamp papers on February 12, but they have not yet been supplied,” the official said.

The residents said that obtaining a simple stamp paper worth Rs250 can take up to two days. During this time, they incur expenses ranging from Rs12,000 to Rs25,000 on travel, accommodation, and other necessities.

The residents have urged the government to take immediate notice, ensure the availability of stamp papers, and either restore the previous system or improve the current one to make it more accessible for people in remote areas.
