LAHORE: As Peshawar Zalmi prepare for the start of HBL Pakistan Super League season 11, head coach Ottis Gibson has outlined a clear roadmap to help captain Babar Azam rediscover his elite form.
Following scrutiny over his strike rate and leadership during the 2026 T20 World Cup, Gibson believes the key lies in mental clarity rather than technical adjustments. Gibson’s first directive is to block out the “noise.” He has advised Babar to disconnect from social media and external criticism, noting that constant negativity about strike rates can weigh heavily on a player’s mindset.
In conversation with media, the coach said he also wants Babar to reconnect with the mindset of a debutant—fearless, fresh, and unburdened. By stripping away mental baggage, Gibson believes the natural brilliance of Pakistan’s premier batter will shine through.
Operational simplicity is another cornerstone of the plan. Gibson emphasized that Babar does not need to be taught how to bat. Instead, the support staff, including Misbah-ul-Haq, will ensure he focuses purely on his role as an opener: managing the new ball, building partnerships, and reading match situations. He stated that Peshawar Zalmi have assembled a balanced squad to support their captain.
