In today’s competitive global economy, degrees alone no longer guarantee employment. Practical knowledge and technical expertise have become equally important. This reality makes skill-based education essential for a developing country like Pakistan, where youth unemployment continues to rise despite increasing numbers of graduates each year. Skill-based education equips students with hands-on experience and practical skills increase employability and encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance. Countries that invest in vocational and technical training often experience stronger economic growth and reduced poverty levels.
Unfortunately, in Pakistan, technical education is sometimes viewed as less prestigious than traditional academic paths. This mindset needs urgent change. Educational institutions should introduce technical subjects at the school level, while the government must expand modern training centres equipped with updated technology. Collaboration between industries and training institutes can also ensure that students learn market-relevant skills.
