While the people are already facing acute economic difficulties due to the petrol hike, another burden has been added. The government has reportedly imposed fixed monthly charges of up to Rs675 per KW per month on various categories of domestic consumers. The aim is apparently to recover Rs101 billion and reduce the cross-subsidy for industrial consumers. In a country where around a third of the population lives below the poverty line this decision is not only unjust but obscene. Unfortunately, that does not seem to matter to those at the helm.
