HYDERABAD: Sindh Senior Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon has extended Eidul Fitr greetings to the people of Pakistan and the Muslim world, urging unity among Muslim countries, and an end to political and ideological differences.
Memon offered the Eid prayer at the Rawal House in Tandojam. Later, speaking to the media, he stressed that the day of Eid should serve as a reminder for the Muslim Ummah to promote unity and cooperation. He also stressed that Muslim countries, including Iran, must move forward together to strengthen mutual solidarity.
He said Pakistan is facing several challenges, adding that the country became strong and acquired nuclear capability under the leadership of PPP founder and then prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Pakistan is a powerful country, and we are grateful to Allah that it is the only nuclear power in the Islamic world.”
Referring to regional security, he said the regime in Afghanistan had attempted to harm Pakistan but our armed forces are bravely confronting such threats. Just as Pakistan had defeated India, any country casting an evil eye on Pakistan will face the same fate, he added.
Talking about governance in the province, he said Sindh is progressing in every sector, and the PPP-led provincial government is striving to provide relief to the public.
He also said the government is implementing austerity measures, and unnecessary expenditures are being curtailed. If the situation does not improve, further strict measures may be taken, he added. “There is currently no situation of lockdown, but the government is working under a smart policy.”
He praised the performance of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, saying that efforts are being made to resolve the problems of the city on a priority basis. Karachi bears the economic burden of the entire country, as most imports and exports pass through the city, he added.
He welcomed the recent meeting between Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chief Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Pakistan President and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, calling it a positive step.
Memon said the administration is active regarding unsafe buildings, and such structures are being evacuated wherever necessary. He clarified that the damage caused in recent days was due to strong winds rather than rain.
He said that an increase in fuel prices has led to a rise in the prices of essential commodities. He reiterated that there have been no political prisoners during the PPP government, and stressed that the party does not believe in revenge politics.
He announced that more buses would, be brought to Hyderabad soon after Eid, while pink scooters for women would also be introduced. He said the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway is an important project that would link interior Sindh with Karachi and boost connectivity.
He concluded by saying that the PPP has always advocated reconciliation, and that national unity is essential for the progress and stability of the country.
