SWABI: In a daring robbery, unidentified motorbike-riding armed men looted over Rs1.2 million in cash and several mobile phones from a shop in Tordher, police officials said on Thursday.
Shah Alam, son of Ahmad Khan and a resident of Tordher, told police that he was present at his shop located on Sabzi Mandi Road when three armed men arrived on a motorcycle and stopped outside the premises. The suspects, he said, entered the shop, held the occupants hostage at gunpoint and took Rs590,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the shop counter.
They also forcibly snatched Rs610,000 and a mobile phone from another person, Fazal Hadi. Additionally, the assailants deprived other persons present at the shop, including Faqir Muhammad and Sohail Ahmad, of their mobile phones. After committing the robbery, the suspects resorted to open fire into the air and fled the scene on their motorcycle.
When contacted, Ahmad Faraz, president of Muttahida Tahaffuz Huqooq Tajiran Main Road Tordher, told The News that this was not the first such incident, adding that several robbery cases had already been reported in the area. He said the trader community felt increasingly insecure, as armed criminals were operating openly without fear.
