On the directives of senior officials of the National Highways and Motorway Police, a special campaign was launched on Thursday across the South Zone, including Karachi, ahead of Eid ul-Fitr.

According to officials, major action was under way at the Jamshoro Toll Plaza, with the participation of senior officers including SP Motorway Police Adeel Shehzad and DPO Jamshoro Zafar Siddique. The National Highways and Motorway Police, in coordination with Sindh Police, had reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safe travel for passengers during the Eid holidays.

A crackdown was ongoing against public service vehicles (PSVs) involved in overloading passengers and overcharging fares. DIG Javed Akbar Riaz said strict action was being taken against PSVs to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of commuters.

Authorities said violations such as driving without licences, lack of fitness certificates and route permits, over-speeding, and other traffic offences were being dealt with strictly. Passengers travelling on bus rooftops were also being removed, and officials had made it clear that such travel would not be allowed under any circumstances.

A zero-tolerance policy had also been enforced against wrong-side driving, with immediate action being taken against violators. Vehicles with worn-out or faulty tyres were being barred from travelling on highways, while strict checking had been put in place at key points.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, indiscriminate action would continue against all traffic law violators to ensure safe and smooth travel during the Eid holidays.
