The administration in Karachi on Wednesday launched a campaign against bus operators overcharging passengers ahead of Eid ul-Fitr.
Provincial transport authority secretary Amit Narwani informed Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi that 896 passengers had been overcharged during the past three days. The administration took action and ensured the return of Rs1.028 million to affected passengers.
The commissioner directed deputy commissioners and the provincial transport authority to ensure strict implementation of official fares. He also instructed that bus operators clearly display fare details on buses and at bus stops, and warned that action would be taken against those involved in overcharging.
Complaint desks were also being set up at bus stops to address fare-related issues and provide immediate relief to commuters. According to officials, on Wednesday alone, 546 buses were checked and Rs718,000 in excess fares was returned to passengers. Over the past four days, a total of Rs1,746,300 had been returned after inspecting 1,442 buses.
