A high-level meeting of the Lyari Transformation Project was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, which discussed long-standing issues of Lyari, improving urban infrastructure and ensuring the provision of basic facilities for the public.
The minister was briefed that the Lyari Transformation Project with an estimated cost of approximately Rs5 billion would be implemented in phases to align the area with modern urban standards.
The meeting was attended by the local government additional secretary, project director, senior officials of relevant departments and technical experts. Speaking on the occasion, Shah stated that the project had the potential to transform the destiny of Lyari’s residents, and the Sindh government was committed to its timely and high-quality completion.
He remarked that a comprehensive master plan had been prepared through the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) covering water supply, improvement in the sewerage system, gas availability, rehabilitation of storm water drains, and reconstruction of streets and roads.
The local government minister emphasised that as per clear directives of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, any negligence, delay, or poor performance in such an important public project would not be tolerated, and all institutions concerned would be held accountable.
He directed that transparency, quality, and speed be ensured during the project’s implementation. The meeting also stressed the need for effective coordination among all departments to accelerate progress and achieve targets within the stipulated timeframe.
Shah stated that addressing the issues being faced by Lyari’s residents was among the government’s top priorities. The project would not only provide essential services but also promote economic and social activities in the area, he added.
