PESHAWAR: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted bail to an accused arrested in connection with the murder of prominent cleric Mufti Munir Shakir in a bomb attack.
The bail plea was heard by ATC Judge Wali Muhammad Khan.
According to the prosecution, accused Yaseen Ahmad, a resident of Urmar in Peshawar, was arrested for allegedly carrying out the attack that led to the killing of Mufti Munir Shakir.
The prosecution told the court that an explosion occurred on March 15 in Tauheed Abad, Shagai, in which Mufti Munir Shakir was killed and three others were injured. The accused was later taken into custody during the investigation.
During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that there was insufficient evidence against his client and prayed the court to grant bail, saying that the prosecution had failed to present any substantial proof to support its case. After hearing the arguments, the court approved the bail application and ordered the release of the accused on bail.
