Islamabad : Despite security concerns following the Friday's attacks in Sector I-8, here, the spirit of the upcoming Eid celebrations remains vibrant across Islamabad. Markets, malls, food streets, and shopping centers are witnessing an overwhelming rush as families continue their preparations for the festive occasion.
Just a day after reports of drone activity in Sector I-8 area created brief anxiety among residents, the commercial districts of the federal capital have quickly returned to their usual pre-Eid bustle. From traditional bazaars to modern shopping malls, people have been thronging markets to purchase clothes, shoes, jewelry, and accessories for the upcoming Eid festivities.
Shoppers, many of them fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan, were seen moving from store to store in search of the latest designs and best discount deals. Garment shops, especially those selling embroidered dresses, ready-made outfits, and children’s wear, remained packed late into the night as families completed their Eid shopping sprees.
Vendors and shopkeepers reported brisk business despite economic challenges. While rising fuel prices have increased the cost of commuting and goods, the festive enthusiasm of citizens appears largely undeterred. Ummarah Aslam, a housewife speaking to this scribe said that Eid is a time of joy and togetherness, and families are determined to celebrate it wholeheartedly regardless of economic pressures. Grocery stores and supermarkets are also experiencing big footfall as households stock up on essential food items for Eid gatherings. Items such as dry fruits, spices, sweets, and traditional ingredients used for festive dishes are being purchased in large quantities. People are seen meat in bulk so that they can entertain and host their family gatherings on Eid days.
Meanwhile, restaurants, cafés, and food streets across the city are operating at full capacity during iftar hours. Families and groups of friends are gathering to break their fast together, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Popular eateries are witnessing long waiting lines as people enjoy elaborate iftar buffets and traditional Ramadan delicacies.
The festive mood is particularly evident among children, who are eagerly anticipating Eid. Youngsters accompanying their parents can be seen excitedly choosing colorful outfits, shoes, and accessories. Toy shops and sweet stalls have also become favorite stops for families shopping with children.
Despite the brief security concerns following the drone incident, the overall environment in the capital remains energetic. Decorative lights in markets, the sound of bargaining shoppers, and the aroma of freshly prepared iftar meals have transformed the city into a vibrant hub of activity.
