KKH reopened after landslide clearance in Kohistan

MANSEHRA: The Karakoram Highway, which had been blocked to all traffic at various points in Upper Kohistan, was reopened on Thursday, restoring connectivity between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“The KKH, which was blocked in our district following heavy landslides, is cleared to traffic,” Tahir Iqbal, the district police officer Upper Kohistan, told reporters.He said motorists and passenger buses were on the way to their respective destinations in GB and the rest of the country.

Hundreds of passengers had been stranded in Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan following the blockade of the KKH at various places the other day.Also in the day, the KKH was blocked due to landslides in Lower Kohistan, suspending traffic between both federating units on Thursday.

“The KKH is cleared in our jurisdiction and motorists and passenger vehicles are on the way to their respective destinations throughout the country after we cleared the blocked section of the artery,” an official of the Lower Kohistan police said.He said that machines were swiftly moved to the blocked section of the KKH following the landslides and cleared it to traffic after hectic efforts of an hour.
