City receives scattered rain, more showers likely

LAHORE:Scattered rain followed by hot weather was witnessed in the city here on Thursday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

After the early morning rain, the average AQI of the city came down to 102, which fell in the category of unhealthy for sensitive groups while the PM2.5 concentration was 7.2 times the World Health Organisation (WHO) annual PM2.5 guideline value.

Following the rain, the Wasa's operational wing became active on the directions of Wasa MDGhafran Ahmed who also monitored the ground situation. The rain was recorded in several areas of the city. Met officials warned that due to recent situation in Iran, winds may carry pollutants, and deteriorate air quality in the western parts of the country.

They said a westerly wave was affecting western and upper parts of the country and likely to persist in upper parts till tonight. They predicted that dry weather was expected in most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with light rain-wind/thunderstorm was expected at a few places in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Thursday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Mithi and Chhor where mercury reached 40°C while in Lahore it was 28°C.

SPAL teams remain vigilant in rain

The Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) cleaning teams remained vigilant at city's all major choking points during the rainfall in city on Thursday. SPAL workers were deployed across key areas including Jail Road, Mall Road, Data Darbar, Circular Road, AikMoria Pull, Do Moria Pull, and McLeod Road to ensure uninterrupted cleaning operations.
