Islamabad:High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Pakistan Jane Marriott on Monday appreciated the integrated and technology-enabled approach adopted by Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority to strengthen disaster risk reduction and national preparedness.
She visited the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the NDMA headquarters here to examine Pakistan’s disaster preparedness facilities, early warning mechanisms and the technological capabilities for monitoring and response coordination.
Officials informed her about the NDMA’s Disaster Early Warning and Technology Ecosystem, including digital portals and operational dashboards operating at the NEOC. Jane Marriott commended the authority’s focus on innovation, inter-agency coordination and evidence-based planning to mitigate the impacts of disasters in an era of increasing climate risks.
NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik highlighted the authority's role as the lead national coordinating body for disaster management, emphasising preparedness and anticipatory actions to address evolving disaster risks.
He and the British high commissioner also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in the areas of disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and humanitarian coordination.
