Four killed, two injured in traffic accidents

At least four people, including a young man and a woman, were killed and two others injured in separate traffic accidents in different parts of the city on Monday.

According to police, a 45-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Tahir, son of Jahangir, was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Marhaba Chowk in Altaf Nagar, Orangi Town. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said investigations were under way.

In another accident, a speeding passenger coach hit a motorcycle on University Road near the staff gate of the University of Karachi within the jurisdiction of the Mobina Town police station. As a result, 18-year-old Faraz Ali, son of Ali Dad, was killed on the spot. His body was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police said the deceased was a resident of Gulshan Noor Apartments near Dow Hospital and a student of the Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology. The driver of the coach managed to flee the scene, whereas police took the vehicle into custody and shifted it to the police station.

Separately, a 40-year-old woman who had been critically injured after being struck by an unidentified vehicle near the Tyre Company area on Mauripur Road in Kalri succumbed to her injuries at the Civil Hospital on the night between Sunday and Monday. Police said no identification documents were found on her, and she remained unconscious after the accident, preventing the authorities from recording her statement. The body was shifted to a morgue for want of identification.

In another accident, 55-year-old Azizur Rehman, who was injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Nursery Stop on Sharea Faisal, died during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. After completing legal formalities, police handed over the body to his family.

Separately, two people were injured when a speeding passenger bus collided with a truck near Gulbai Kanta on the Northern Bypass in the Baldia Town area, causing the truck to overturn. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Police said they had started investigations into the incident.
