Sindh Rangers and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police arrested two suspects allegedly involved in extortion during a joint operation in New Karachi, officials reported on Monday.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspects, identified as Arib alias Mushtaq and Muzammil, were apprehended during an intelligence-based operation conducted in the area. The spokesperson revealed that Arib alias Mushtaq was associated with an extortion gang led by Usama Jameel and Abdul Samad Kathiawari. He, along with his accomplices Manaz alias Mani and Asghar, was allegedly involved in collecting extortion money from shopkeepers and other businessmen. Manaz and Asghar had been arrested earlier and sent to jail, prompting Arib to go into hiding in various parts of the city.

The second suspect, Muzammil, was said to be a close associate of Bahadur PMT, an alleged leader of another extortion network. Authorities stated that Muzammil, along with his accomplices, was involved in collecting extortion money from business owners on behalf of Bahadur PMT.

Officials further claimed that the suspects and their associates were also involved in transferring the extorted money abroad via the hawala-hundi system, a method commonly used for illegal money transfers. Rangers officials confirmed that raids were ongoing to arrest other members of the extortion network. The arrested suspects had been handed over to the police for further legal action.
