Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh leader and former MPA Shahzad Qureshi has strongly reacted to the recent increase in petroleum prices, stating that the government’s decision is equivalent to direct economic oppression of the public.

He said on Monday that the rise in petrol and diesel prices will not only make transportation more expensive but will also impact daily-use commodities, making essential items even costlier and further increasing the difficulties of ordinary citizens.

He urged the government to ensure strict implementation of the law regarding the mandatory fifteen-day petroleum reserves so that the public can be protected from unjustified price hikes. He further stated that petroleum stocks available in the country are usually purchased at previous prices; therefore, in principle, prices should only be increased when a new consignment is bought from the international market at higher rates. He also demanded that transparency be ensured in the process of determining petroleum prices and that public interest should be given a top priority at all costs.
