A search committee constituted for the appointment of vice chancellor at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (SBBUVAS), Sakrand, has shortlisted three candidates for the position.
According to sources, Dr Imran Rasheed has been placed at the top of the panel, followed by Dr Tanveer Ahmed in the second position, while Prof Dr Qamaruddin Mehr has been ranked third.
The search committee, headed by Dr Tariq Rafi, conducted interviews of 20 candidates for the post. A total of 27 applicants had applied for the vice chancellor’s position. Among the applicants were two candidates from Punjab as well as the incumbent vice chancellor of the university, Dr Farooq Hassan, who, however, did not appear for the interview.
Other candidates included Dr Parshotam Khatri, Dr Usman Chachar, Dr Imran Rasheed Rajput, Dr Tariq Narijo, Javed Ali Gudahi, Prof Dr Hamid Ali Qazi, Prof Dr Allah Bux Khichiwal, Prof Dr Ahmed Sultan Jatoi, Ghulam Mujtaba Mari, Prof Dr Tanveer Ahmed, Prof Dr Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, Dr Iram Bughio, Prof Dr Ejaz Hussain Soomro, Muhammad Bux Lakho, Dr Riaz Bhanbhro, Prof Dr Sarfaraz Ali Fazlani, Prof Dr Ali Raza Shah, Prof Dr Zahid Iqbal Rajput, Dr Qurban Ali Shah, Dr Habibullah Janyaro, Prof Dr Qamaruddin Mehr, Prof Dr Kania Lal, and Prof Dr Muhammad Ismail Kunbhar.
Sources said the names of the three shortlisted candidates had been sent to the home department for intelligence clearance. After completion of the clearance process, the chief minister of Sindh will approve one of the names for appointment as vice chancellor.
The meeting of the search committee was chaired by Dr Tariq Rafi, chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission. Other members of the committee included Secretary Boards and Universities Abbas Baloch, Secretary College Education Nadeemur Rehman Memon, Secretary Sindh Higher Education Commission, retired bureaucrat Siddique Memon, and Dr A.Q. Mughal.
