ISLAMABAD: While condemning increase in prices of petroleum products, former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani questioned justification for hike, stating current stock of petroleum products had been purchased at previous rates.
“The increase in petroleum prices should be withdrawn immediately until new stock is purchased”, he said in a statement on Saturday.
Raza Rabbani said there was no justification for raising prices because existing petroleum stock had been bought at older rates. He called on government to immediately reverse increase until fresh supplies are purchased at revised prices.
Former Senate chairman also pointed out prices had been raised during holy month of Ramazan, when prices of essential commodities are already very high.
He said increase in petroleum prices had severely affected ordinary people and would have a snowball effect on overall price index.
“How can a motorcycle owner afford an increase of Rs55 per litre? The government lives in ivory towers, oblivious to plight of the common man”, he said.
