ISLAMABAD: The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) and Imamia Student Organisation (ISO) on Wednesday called on the government to instantly close down the US Embassy and consulates across Pakistan.
MWM Vice Chairman Syed Ahmad Iqbal Rizvi, ISO President Syed Amin Shirazi, MWM Chief Organiser Syed Nasir Shirazi and others spoke to a media conference in relation to the recent martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel attack on his office.
They demanded an impartial investigation into the incident of firing on protesters during the peaceful protest on March 1, saying the officials involved in the incident should be punished according to the law.
The MWM and ISO leaders insisted that the arrested persons should be released immediately and the families of the deceased should be given compensation while the injured should be provided with full medical facilities.
The central leaders said that it is the responsibility of state institutions to protect the constitutional right of citizens to protest and formulate a clear policy to prevent such unfortunate incidents. “Bullets should not be fired on protesters’ heads and chests,” they added.
They further said that difference of opinion is the beauty of democratic societies and suppressing peaceful voices by force is not a solution to problems but rather creates further unrest and chaos. They wanted to know as to who had given the US Marines the legal permission to fire on unarmed peaceful protesters in Karachi.
They also paid tributes to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying: “He was a great son of Islam and a beloved leader of Muslims around the world; his martyrdom is a great tragedy for the Muslim Ummah, on which every eye is in immense grief.”
The MWM and ISO leaders underlined that Ali Khamenei was not the leader of any one sect but all Muslims. Instead of bowing down in front of oppression and arrogance, they emphasised, he fought steadfastly and sacrificed his life. “His martyrdom will further strengthen the resistance movement and the evil intentions of the forces hostile to Islam will fail.”’
The leaders announced that a nationwide national gathering will be held in memory of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and an organised and peaceful protest will be held across the country on Sunday. They vowed that the struggle will continue to make Pakistan a sovereign and dignified state free from external interference.
