QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Friday passed a joint congratulatory resolution appreciating Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire and mediation between Iran and the United States.
The resolution was moved by Provincial Home Minister Ziaullah Langove during the assembly session. After receiving permission from the chair, Langove presented the resolution on behalf of provincial ministers Shoaib Nosherwani, Ali Madad Jattak, Noor Muhammad Dummar, parliamentary secretaries Muhammad Asghar Rind, Wali Muhammad Noorzai, Hadiya Nawaz, and MPAs Khair Jan Baloch, Ashok Kumar, Farah Azeem Shah, and Shahida Rauf.
The resolution stated that the house welcomes the positive development of a ceasefire between the US and Iran and expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s timely, balanced, peaceful and result-oriented diplomatic efforts. It also praised Pakistan’s government and diplomatic leadership for playing a key mediatory role.
The assembly commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their diplomatic vision, leadership, and services towards global peace, stating that their efforts paved the way for dialogue and peaceful settlement with international and regional powers.
The resolution further noted that Pakistan, as a responsible and peace-loving nation, succeeded in drawing global attention and preventing a major conflict from escalating into a full-scale crisis, contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.
It described the role of the prime minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir as an exemplary contribution towards strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic standing and international credibility, and stressed that Pakistan’s balanced role in safeguarding global peace should continue in the future.
Speaking on the resolution, Langove said Pakistan’s efforts were being recognized worldwide, adding that the country helped reduce human and financial losses in the region. He expressed hope that peace efforts would succeed through cooperation between the parties.
Provincial Minister Noor Muhammad Dummar said the world desired peace during the conflict and Pakistan played the first and most effective role, calling it a matter of pride. He added that major international negotiations are now being held in Pakistan due to the efforts of political and military leadership.
National Party MPA Khair Jan Baloch warned that negative forces still exist globally that promote violence and instability, naming Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Indian Prime Minister Modi as threats to global peace. He said Pakistan’s political and military leadership acted wisely and cautiously.
MPAs Farah Azeem Shah and Hadiya Nawaz said Pakistan saved the world from destruction, and praised the political and military leadership for their role. PML-N MPA Ashok Kumar said the minority community supported the resolution, stating that Pakistan and Balochistan were protected at a critical moment.
JUIF MPA Shahida Rauf said her party appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts and urged political unity for national interest, calling prevention of war a service to humanity.
Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jattak termed Pakistan’s mediation a major diplomatic, political and military success, stating that Middle East wars have always had severe impacts on the region. He said Pakistan convinced both sides to enter talks and helped prevent further escalation.
Haq Do Tehreek leader Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman called the US, India and Israel “three major evils” but praised Pakistan’s leadership, stressing the need to promote peace and stability within the country as well.
Provincial Minister Asim Kurd Gailo said the US had destroyed several regional countries, including Afghanistan, to maintain dominance, but credited President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir for playing a positive role in achieving the ceasefire.
Speaker Captain (R) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai said the unity of the Iranian nation could serve as an inspiration. Provincial Minister Shoaib Nosherwani said historic decisions were being witnessed and thanked the president, prime minister, foreign minister, military and intelligence teams. He also expressed gratitude to countries including China, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia for supporting the ceasefire efforts.
At the speaker’s direction, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman led a special prayer in the house for the success of peace negotiations. The resolution was then unanimously adopted as a joint resolution of the entire assembly.
Later, the speaker adjourned the session until Monday afternoon.
