ISLAMABAD: PPP Senator Sarmad Ali on Friday said the adoption of the 1973 Constitution was a defining moment in Pakistan’s history, which provided a democratic and federal framework for the country.

“On the Pakistan Constitution Day, we commemorate the adoption of the 1973 Constitution which was a defining moment in our national history and provided a democratic and federal framework for the country,” he said in a message issued here. This historic achievement, he noted, is attributed to the leadership and vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who, as prime minister, played a central role in steering the constitutional process. He contributed meaningfully to forging a rare moment of consensus in Pakistan’s parliamentary history.

The PPP legislator underlined that the Constitution of 1973 stands as a collective national compact — reflecting compromise, dialogue and shared commitment to democracy, federalism, and fundamental rights. “As we observe this day, let us renew our pledge to uphold the Constitution in letter and spirit, and to strengthen the democratic institutions it was designed to protect,” he maintained.
