Orangi Town police have registered a case against a Mazda bus driver and his conductor for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a traffic police officer during duty. The driver has been arrested, while raids are underway to apprehend the conductor.
According to the FIR registered under sections 186 and 365/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Orangi Town police station, complainant Sarfaraz Khan stated that he is posted at the Orangi Town Traffic Section.
In his statement, he said that on the evening of March 2, he was performing duty along with fellow officials at Orangi Town No. 5 on Shahrah-e-Orangi to ensure smooth traffic flow. He alleged that a bus operating on Route G-11 was parked in the middle of the road at a chowrangi, waiting for passengers around the time of Iftar, causing a traffic jam behind it.
When the officer directed the driver to move the vehicle aside, the driver allegedly refused to comply. The complainant said he boarded the vehicle through the passenger door to instruct the driver to pull over, but the driver instead sped away and told the conductor to shut the door.
The officer alleged that he was being abducted to an unknown location when the speeding vehicle crashed into the Orange Line footpath and an iron grill near the Board Office in North Nazimabad. After the vehicle stopped, he managed to get off.
He further alleged that the driver, later identified as Saeed Akbar, along with the unidentified conductor, subjected him to physical assault, causing injuries to his face, knees, and other parts of the body. He said he later managed to escape and reach the police station. Police arrested the bus driver, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the conductor.
