Senior police and civil authorities in Karachi have finalised extensive security, traffic and administrative arrangements for Youm-e-Ali (RA), with officials vowing full coordination to maintain peace during the main procession and related gatherings.
A meeting was held at the Karachi Police Office on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan in connection with Youm-e-Ali, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA).
The meeting was attended by Fiqh Jafariya scholars, organisers of processions and gatherings, zonal DIGs, DIG Traffic, DIG Security and Emergency, district SSPs and other senior officers. Security arrangements, traffic management plans and administrative matters were reviewed in detail. Scholars and organisers appreciated the measures already taken by the Karachi police and shared further suggestions to strengthen coordination and facilitation.
Additional IG Azad Khan directed officers to ensure foolproof security for all processions and majalis, with particular emphasis on the protection of scholars. He instructed police officials to maintain close coordination with the civil administration so that all arrangements are implemented smoothly.
The meeting concluded with an assurance of full cooperation from organisers and prayers for peace and stability in the country.
Earlier, a meeting was chaired by DIG East Dr Farrukh Ali to finalise a security plan in the East Zone. The session was attended by senior police officers, Sindh Rangers officials, DC East, ADC Malir, Shia scholars, procession organizers, town and UC chairmen and representatives of K-Electric.
Participants held detailed discussions on procession routes, security deployment and management of gatherings. The DIG assured the scholars that all their concerns would be addressed and comprehensive arrangements would be in place.
Scholars reaffirmed their commitment to promoting unity, solidarity and religious tolerance, while organisers pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to help maintain order.
A special prayer was offered at the end of the meeting for unity within the Muslim Ummah and for national security. Separately, Syed Hassan Naqvi, commissioner of Karachi, chaired a meeting to review civic arrangements for the main procession.
The meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, Deputy Commissioner East Nasrullah Abbasi, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, DIG East Farukh Lanjar, DIG South Asad Raza, Assistant Commissioner HQ Rabia Syed, Managing Director Solid Waste Management Board, Chief Fire Officer and municipal commissioners of the concerned towns.
Senior police officials briefed the commissioner on security deployment, while the DIG Traffic presented traffic management plans, including alternative routes to minimize disruption for commuters.
It was decided that, alongside strict security measures, special arrangements would be ensured for cleanliness, street lighting and am uninterrupted power supply along the procession route. Authorities also agreed on coordinated measures to ensure water supply and immediate resolution of any sewerage complaints.
The commissioner directed deputy commissioners and municipal officials to remain in close contact with organizers and personally oversee arrangements in the field to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
With multiple coordination meetings held at the city and zonal levels, Karachi authorities expressed confidence that the observance of Youm-e-Ali (RA) would take place in a peaceful and orderly manner through joint efforts of police, civil administration and religious leaders.
