Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday took strict notice of the severe traffic congestion that brought large parts of Karachi’s business district to a standstill. Expressing strong displeasure over the gridlock on II Chundrigar Road and MT Khan Road, the chief minister directed immediate corrective measures to restore the normal traffic flow.
According to officials, commuters remained stuck for hours, particularly around Jinnah Bridge and Shaheen Complex, causing frustration among office workers and residents already rushing to reach home before Iftar. Taking serious notice of the situation, the CM ordered the DIG Traffic to ensure that all blocked arteries are cleared without delay.
He further instructed that additional traffic personnel be deployed, especially during peak hours in Ramazan, to prevent a repeat of such chaos. The chief minister emphasized that officers must remain present at key intersections instead of relying solely on patrol vehicles. “Field presence is essential to manage pressure and guide motorists effectively,” he directed.
Illegal parking, identified as a major cause of the bottleneck, was also addressed. The CM ordered an immediate crackdown on vehicles obstructing roads and strict enforcement to ensure smooth movement.
To facilitate commuters, he also directed authorities to widely publicize alternative routes through social media platforms as well as mainstream media, enabling citizens to plan their travel in advance.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to easing public hardship, he made it clear that negligence in traffic management will not be tolerated, especially in the city’s busiest commercial corridors.
