LAHORE: Two students from Punjab University (PU) who achieved international success at the World Indoor Virtual Rowing Championship 2026 were honoured by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali in Lahore.

Gold medallist Abdul Rahman of PU Law College and silver medallist Zarq Khan of PU Hailey College met the Vice Chancellor in his office, where they presented their medals and certificates. After evaluation, the VC re-awarded the honours in recognition of their achievement.

The championship featured over 2,200 competitors worldwide, making the victories even more significant. Abdul Rahman secured first place in the lightweight category, ahead of France and Egypt, while Zarq Khan finished second in the open weight category, behind Latvia and ahead of Germany. Their success placed Pakistan firmly on the global rowing map.

Speaking to the media, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali described the medals as an honor not only for PU but for the entire country. “We will give special prize to these students and also appeal to the government to encourage and patronize these two talented athletes,” he remarked.

The recognition ceremony was attended by Director Sports Dr. Shabir Sarwar, alongside senior officials from Pakistan’s sporting community, including Khalid Mehmood (Secretary, Pakistan Olympics Association), Hamdan Nazir (President, Pakistan Rowing Federation), Rizwanul Haq Razi (Secretary, Islamabad Olympic Association), Zaheer Ahmed (Secretary, Pakistan Rowing Federation), Major Irfan (Secretary, Pakistan Boxing Federation), and Abdul Rahman (Coach, Pakistan Rowing Team).
