The United States launched “major combat operations” in Iran on Saturday, joined by Israel, President Donald Trump announced in a video message. In its report, the Post said that the United States launched strikes against the Islamic State in Nigeria on Christmas Day; and in Syria on several occasions since December; and a Special Operations raid in Venezuela early January 3, in which US forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and killed an estimated 75 people. Trump has also previously ordered strikes in Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen.
According to the Post, on Friday morning, Trump told reporters he was “not thrilled” with how negotiations with Iran were going over his demand that it “not have nuclear weapons”. A US military attack on Iran could result in regime change, Trump said, speaking with journalists before his morning departure from the White House for Texas and Florida.
“Nobody knows. … It would be nice if we could do it without” military force, Trump said, “but sometimes you have to do it with.”
