A robbery attempt was foiled by a security guard in DHA Phase VI on Saturday after armed suspects tried to snatch Rs500,000 from a citizen who had just withdrawn the amount from a private bank.
The incident occurred in Khayaban-e-Muhafiz within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan police station in District South. According to DIG South Asad Raza, the motorcyclist was heading home after withdrawing the cash when four armed suspects riding two motorcycles intercepted him. Sensing danger, the citizen noticed the gate of a nearby bungalow open and rushed inside to seek safety.
CCTV footage showed the suspects following him into the bungalow in an attempt to loot the cash. However, the security guard deployed at the residence first resorted to aerial firing and then opened fire at the fleeing suspects, forcing them to escape without taking the money.
DIG Raza said the incident took place on February 24 and multiple CCTV clips had been obtained. The footage showed the suspects attempting to grab the rider from behind while he was still on the moving motorcycle. One of the suspects then dismounted and ran into the house, prompting the guard to fire at them.
The police said the suspects had backup support, as a car was also seen accompanying the motorcycles. During their escape, two of the suspects reportedly abandoned the motorcycles and fled in the backup vehicle in an apparent attempt to conceal their identities.
Two of the suspects were wearing masks, while the other two had helmets on, making identification difficult. The police hade launched an investigation from all angles and are conducting raids to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
