The Napier police arrested ten illegal Afghan nationals on Saturday during an ongoing operation against them, said SHO Azam Rajpar.

The arrests were made during raids in the area. The arrested illegal Afghan nationals were identified as Noor Khani, Muhammad Rasool, Muhammad Dilawar, Jan Agha, Najeeb, Yousuf, Abdul Khalique, Salahuddin, Muhammad Younus and Abdul Ibrahim.

In another raid conducted under the Sindh Temporary Residency Act, Muhammad Shafiq, son of Haroon, Abdul Aziz Chachar, son of Abdul Sattar, Sadaqat Ali, son of Liaqat Ali, and Muhammad Shahid, son of Muhammad Bashir, were detained.

On Friday, the Sindh government had ordered the provincial police to strictly implement the federal government’s directives to verify records of Afghan nationals holding Pakistan’s CNIC and carry out the mapping of Afghan visa holders as part of efforts to strengthen the security measures in the province in the wake of the ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan war.

As per the federal government instructions, the Sind government directed the SHOs to accept only those CNICs of Afghan nationals made before 1974.

Officials said there has been a stir across the country, as the federal government’s decision to strictly scrutinise Pakistani identity cards made by Afghans has been issued. Now only the original and authentic official record before 1974 will be accepted, and a clampdown is to be carried out on fake or suspicious entries.

The provincial government’s order reads that all SHOs should conduct thorough interrogation of Afghan citizens holding Pakistani CNICs by verifying and backtracking records. They SHOs have also been told that the mapping of Afghan nationals holding valid visas must be ensured.

Apart from that, the Sindh government has banned the entry of more than two people at the airport for pick and drop. In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on security threats, in which the home secretary, the IGP and other relevant officers gave briefings.
