ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court’s subsidiary body, the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee, has approved the expansion of biometric verification services to all courts across the country.

According to an official statement, the purpose of this decision is to strengthen secure identity verification in courts, prevent impersonation and fraud, and make judicial proceedings faster and more efficient through technology-based solutions.

Under the new framework, litigants will now be able to complete biometric verification related to judicial matters in all district courts.

The statement further says that verification services can also be obtained from any Nadra’s e-Sahulat centres nationwide. For vulnerable and special-needs litigants, particularly senior citizens and individuals whose fingerprints are not clear, a proposal has also been presented to introduce a facial recognition system.

Meanwhile, the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) Secretariat approved long-pending staff promotions.

According to an official statement, issued here on Friday, the promotions were granted on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures.

Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairman LJCP Yahya Afridi has consistently emphasised that sustainable reform in the justice sector begins with strengthening internal governance structures.
