LAHORE: In a significant step towards integrating environmental stewardship into public administration, the Civil Services Academy (CSA), PAS Campus, hosted a high level session on biodiversity conservation and environmental governance for 55 STP probationers of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) and 14 Domain Mid Career Management Course (MCMC) officers.

The session, conducted by senior experts from WWF-Pakistan, underscored the growing imperative for civil servants to address ecological challenges alongside developmental responsibilities. The speakers Ms Hamera Aisha, Senior Manager Wildlife Conservation, and Dr Masood Arshad, Senior Director Programmes stressed that environmental literacy is no longer optional but an essential competency for administrators who will serve as deputy commissioners, secretaries, regulators and policy architects across districts and ministries.

The discussion came against the backdrop of mounting environmental pressures facing Pakistan, including climate change, biodiversity loss, water scarcity, deforestation and illegal wildlife trade. PAS officers, as future district administrators and policy leaders, will be responsible for overseeing protected areas, wetlands, forest lands and riverine ecosystems while simultaneously managing economic development and community welfare. Domain MCMC officers, meanwhile, will shape public narratives and awareness on environmental issues through strategic communication roles.
