Police have yet to arrest the five nominated suspects in the murder case of a man from the Hazara community, eight days after he was shot dead in the Gulbahar area.

The incident occurred within the limits of the Rizvia police station near Liaquat Chowk in Aligarh Colony, where armed assailants opened fire, killing one person and injuring two others. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Zubair, son of Chanzeb. The injured were identified as 45-year-old Ali Akbar and 25-year-old Kashan, also son of Chanzeb.

The police said a verbal altercation had taken place between local youths on February 20. The dispute was later settled between the two groups after Taraweeh prayers. However, as the parties were returning home following the reconciliation, members of the rival group allegedly opened indiscriminate fire from behind, resulting in Zubair’s death and injuries to the two others. Among the injured was Kashan, the deceased’s younger brother, who was a police constable.

On February 21, FIR No 54/26 was registered under murder charges on the complaint of Kashif Hussain Shah, son of Sabir Hussain Shah. According to the FIR, five suspects — Salman, Faizan, Hassan, Umar and Asad — were nominated in the case.

The police said one suspect, Hamza, had been taken into custody and included in the investigation, while the other nominated suspects had gone into hiding. Raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining accused.
