PESHAWAR: A senior Peshawar-based journalist, Anila Shaheen, passed away here on Thursday after a brief illness.Family sources said she suffered a brain haemorrhage recently and was rushed to a private health facility. She remained under treatment there for almost three days but ultimately lost the battle for her life.
Her funeral prayer was offered in Azizabad on Inqilab Road in Chamkani, and she was laid to rest in her ancestral graveyard.A large number of people, including journalists, attended the last rites of the deceased, who was widely respected.
Meanwhile, the office-bearers of the Peshawar Press Club expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of a senior member, who remained associated with different media organisations and represented the community in the Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and the Peshawar Press Club.
In a statement, PPC President M Riaz and General Secretary Alamgir Khan termed late Anila Shaheen a courageous, principled and professional journalist and lauded her contributions to the field.
She was hailed for struggling tirelessly for the rights of the journalist community, freedom of the press and the resolution of issues faced by working journalists. She remained actively engaged in safeguarding the rights and interests of working journalists, holding various positions, including the unique distinction of being elected general secretary of the KhUJ.
