LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is offering a 70 per cent matching grant under its SME Certification & International Accreditation Grant Programme.
According to grant managers, the initiative has gained traction, with entrepreneurs across the country showing interest in obtaining globally recognised certifications to enhance competitiveness and export potential.
Under the programme, SMEs will cover 30 per cent of the costs themselves, while the grant will cover certification expenses of up to Rs800,000 and related consultancy costs of up to Rs200,000.
The programme has been launched under the prime minister’s vision to enhance the export potential of SMEs in international markets. It aims to assist businesses in obtaining key international certifications by reducing the financial and technical barriers associated with compliance. The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Industries and Production’s strategy to strengthen SMEs, enabling them to formalise, access new markets, and boost export capabilities, as advised by the prime minister.
Officials say that through this initiative, SMEDA offers matching grants and advisory support to help entrepreneurs meet global standards related to quality, safety, environmental management, and operational systems. The response from entrepreneurs has been encouraging, and the authority aims to support more than 100 SMEs in the current fiscal year.
Several SMEs expressed interest in the certification grant at the recent ‘Made in Pakistan — SME Cluster Showcase Expo 2026’. With applications increasing and approvals already underway, officials expect the programme to be a key instrument in the government’s drive to formalise the SME sector, boost exports, and build a more competitive and resilient economy.
Officials emphasise that the selection process for the grant is merit-based and transparent, with applications processed on a first-come, first-served basis, while ensuring compliance with eligibility criteria. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to helping SMEs transition from informal operations to structured, compliant, and globally competitive businesses.
SMEDA places special emphasis on encouraging participation from start-ups, women-led enterprises, and businesses in underserved areas. With a simplified application process, the authority is actively guiding applicants through awareness sessions, media engagement, and a digital campaign outlining certification requirements and procedures.
Entrepreneurs interested in the programme can apply through the SMEDA website or the SME Registration Portal. Registration is free and represents an important step towards formalisation, improved governance, and sustainable business growth.
