The recent Board of Peace meeting in Washington brought together several influential world leaders to deliberate on Gaza’s fragile situation. Hosted by US President Donald Trump, the gathering aimed to mobilise international support for reconstruction and long-term stability in the conflict-affected region. The presence of leaders from various countries signalled a shared acknowledgment that Gaza’s crisis is not merely regional, but a matter of global humanitarian concern. Among the notable participants was our prime minister, whose address reflected Pakistan’s consistent stance on the issue. He emphasised the urgent need for a sustained ceasefire, protection of civilian lives and meaningful progress towards a just political solution. His remarks highlighted that reconstruction efforts, while essential, must go hand in hand with respect for international law and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The involvement of multiple nations in pledging financial and logistical support demonstrates a willingness to move beyond statements and towards practical measures. However, the true measure of success will depend on transparency, inclusivity and coordination with existing international mechanisms. Peace initiatives that fail to incorporate local voices and long-term political frameworks risk becoming temporary fixes rather than sustainable solutions. As global attention once again turns to Gaza, the international community must prioritise unity over rivalry and justice over pragmatism.
