The Karachi administration continues with its crackdown on profiteers during the holy month of Ramazan. The Karachi Commissioner Office issued a report on 4th Ramazan, which stated that 391 shopkeepers were penalised with fines exceeding Rs2,949,520 imposed.
Moreover, items were auctioned at official rates by the assistant commissioners at 179 locations. The report stated that during the previous 24 hours, 1,231 kilogrammes (kg) of fruits worth Rs326,011 were sold on notified prices, and 82kg of meat worth Rs66,310, 164kg of vegetables worth Rs7781, and 513kg of grocery items worth Rs22914 rupees were sold by the price magistrates on 179 occasions in various markets of Karachi to provide relief to the general public.
The magistrates made visits to check the prices at 1,243 places. During checking, 238 shopkeepers were issued warnings. Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has asked the citizens to report overpricing to the Commissioner Helpline 1299. He has also directed the deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners to strictly control prices and provide relief to the citizens.
