Search operations intensified in Ramazan

LAHORE : Punjab Police have further intensified search, sweep and combing operations across the province, including Lahore, to ensure protection of citizens during the holy month of Ramazan.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, a total of 337 search operations were conducted across the province during the last 24 hours. During these operations, 9,597 individuals were questioned and 15 criminals were taken into custody.

The spokesperson added that so far this year, 17,742 search operations have been conducted across Punjab, during which more than 726,000 individuals were questioned and 2,093 criminals were arrested.

During the operations, police recovered 37 rifles, 397 pistols, 62 guns and a large quantity of bullets from the possession of suspects.

IG Punjab Abdul Karim directed that search, sweep and combing operations against anti-state and criminal elements should continue without interruption. He also stressed making door-knocking operations more effective to curb terrorists and miscreants.

Security tightened during sehri time

Security remained on high alert at mosques during Sehri and Fajr in Ramazan ul Mubarak.

SP Cantt Akhlaq Ullah Tarar visited mosques in the Cantt Division to review security arrangements and brief officials. He remained present in the field with police personnel.

Comprehensive security arrangements have been made in consultation with mosque and imambargah administrations. Circle officers are monitoring arrangements in their respective areas.

Officials deployed on mosque rooftops have been directed to remain on high alert. Worshippers are being allowed entry after checking, parking has been shifted away from mosques, and close monitoring of suspicious persons and movement in surrounding areas is being maintained.

SP Cantt said officers and personnel will remain at their duty points until the last raka’at of Fajr prayer.

Theft, robbery incidents

Citizens were deprived of cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones, motorcycles and vehicles in various theft and robbery incidents in the city.

According to details, in Shahdara, Abdul Rehman was robbed of Rs300,000 and a mobile phone. In Sundar, Anjum lost Rs275,000 and a mobile phone. In Nishtar Colony, Azam was deprived of Rs260,000 and a mobile phone, while in South Cantt, Ashfaq was robbed of Rs255,000 and a mobile phone.

In Nawab Town, Mujtaba was deprived of Rs230,000 cash, a mobile phone and other valuables.

Meanwhile, cars were stolen from Green Town and Gulshan Ravi, while motorcycles were stolen from Ichhra, Lorry Adda and Mughalpura.
