LAHORE:A man was caught red-handed while allegedly stealing construction material from a remodelling project near Bhatti Gate.
According to authorities, the suspect was apprehended by the TEPA enforcement team during a timely operation and was later handed over to the police for legal action. Officials said the accused used to enter the construction site wearing a labourer’s jacket and cap to avoid suspicion.
During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to stealing steel, pipes and barricading sheets from the project site. Authorities added that incidents of streetlights going out were also reported due to cable theft, forcing repeated replacement of wiring.
The removal of barricading sheets had increased the risk of public entry into the construction area, posing safety concerns. Investigations are also under way into suspected theft of manhole covers from the vicinity. Following the incident, the administration decided to tighten security around the sensitive religious and historical site to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
