LAHORE : Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Mian Kashif Ashfaq on Sunday called for revisiting the new solar policy fully ensuring people-friendly and supportive of sustainable economic growth.
Chairing here board of directors meeting, he emphasised that solar energy has emerged as a reliable and affordable alternative for industry, agriculture, domestic and small businesses struggling with escalating electricity tariffs and frequent power shortages. He said 546,000 consumers have invested their hard-earned savings in rooftop solar systems with the hope of reducing energy costs and contributing to a greener Pakistan. Any abrupt changes in net metering rates or additional taxation, he warned, could undermine investor confidence and slow down the momentum of renewable energy adoption.
Kashif Ashfaq stressed that policy stability is crucial to attract domestic and foreign investment in the renewable sector. He demanded the government consult stakeholders, including industry representatives, consumers and energy experts, before finalising amendments.
