Punjab CTD arrests 26 terrorists

LAHORE: The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab arrested 26 terrorists belonging to various banned organizations during operations in different areas in a month, foiling a major terrorist plan.

Four dangerous terrorists of Fitna al-Khawarij were arrested from Sargodha along with heavy explosive materials and weapons. According to the spokesperson, the CTD Punjab conducted 286 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism, in which 286 suspects were questioned and 26 terrorists arrested along with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.

The arrested terrorists include Irfan, Zaman Ali, Mujahid Ali, Faisal, Shiraz, Naimatullah, Osama, Ghulam Yasin and Yasir. These arrested terrorists belong to Fitna al-Khawarij and other terrorist organizations. The arrested terrorists belong to Lahore, Sahiwal, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chakwal, Rajanpur, Narowal and Pakpattan. Explosives 4935 grams, detonators 19, safety fuse wire 34 feet, EID bombs 3, pamphlets of the banned organization, magazines, prime card, mobile phone and cash were recovered from the terrorists.

The spokesperson said the terrorists had planned to target important buildings in different cities. He added that 25 cases were registered against the terrorists and further investigation is being carried out. He said 4,662 combing operations were also conducted with the cooperation of local police and security agencies, 160,009 people were checked, 538 suspects arrested, 516 FIRs registered and 389 recoveries made.
