An 18-year-old boy, critically injured during a robbery in Orangi Town, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at hospital on Friday.

The victim, identified as Huzaifa son of Tariq, was a resident of Qasba Colony. The incident occurred on Wednesday near a mobile phone accessories shop close to Haider Medical Store in Orangi Town, under the limits of Pirabad Police Station.

Armed suspects attempted to snatch mobile phones from the shop owner, Faizan Iqbal, and another individual, Sharjeel. During the robbery, Huzaifa resisted the thieves and reportedly threw his own mobile phone at them. In response, the suspects opened fire, hitting him in the chest. He was first taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment.

Police said that while fleeing on foot, the suspects were apprehended by local residents and subjected to beating. Officers arrived at the scene promptly and arrested Moosa, son of Momin, and Meraj, son of Ibrahim, recovering firearms and the stolen mobile phones from their possession.

Two cases have been registered against the suspects, and investigations have been handed over to the Investigation Police for further action.

With Huzaifa’s death, the number of people killed this year in Karachi during robbery resistance incidents has risen to 12, including a female student.

Similarly, a 16-year-old boy was shot dead during a robbery at his home in Meerut Society, Scheme 33, near Site Superhighway.

The victim, identified as Ayan, son of Imran, was struck by a bullet in the abdomen. His body was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to police, the incident appears to have stemmed from a personal dispute. The Site Superhighway Industrial Area police reached the scene to oversee initial investigations. Police investigators noted that the society has strict security arrangements, making it unusual for armed suspects to enter, carry out a robbery, and escape so easily.

Relatives of the victim told police that during the night between Thursday and Friday, unidentified armed men broke into the house to loot. Ayan, who had been sleeping in his room after studying online, woke up suddenly during the robbery, prompting the suspects to open fire as they fled. Ayan was struck and killed by gunfire.

The family reportedly refused to speak to authorities and initially did not report the incident, but police responded after receiving an intelligence tip. Officers were investigating the circumstances of the shooting to piece together the sequence of events.
