A high-level meeting of the Sindh cabinet’s finance sub-committee, chaired by Minister for Local Government, Housing & Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, on Tuesday approved a series of major financial allocations aimed at accelerating development projects, strengthening institutions and improving public services across the province.

The committee conducted a detailed review of ongoing and proposed development schemes, key financial matters and institutional requirements. Several significant approvals were granted across multiple sectors to ensure the smooth execution of public welfare initiatives.

Among the major decisions, funds were approved for the successful conduct of the 35th National Games 2025 under the sports & youth affairs department, with the objective of promoting sports culture and encouraging youth engagement in positive activities across Sindh.

The committee also sanctioned amendments to the emergency flood assistance component of the works & services department, alongside releasing funds to expedite rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in flood-affected areas.

In the education sector, approval was granted for the establishment of phase II of the Thar Institute of Engineering, Science & Technology, a move expected to expand access to higher education in underdeveloped regions. Additional funds were also approved to clear outstanding dues arising from fee exemptions, ensuring continuity of academic activities without disruption.

Furthermore, the committee approved various non-ADP (Annual Development Programme) schemes and released funds to union councils to accelerate development work at grassroots level. Financial allocations were also sanctioned for non-ADP projects in Sukkur to improve the provision of essential civic facilities.

Projects yet to complete legal formalities were also reviewed. The committee decided to defer funding for such schemes until the next meeting, directing the relevant authorities to fulfil all legal requirements without delay.

Shah emphasised that the primary objective of the finance sub-committee is to resolve financial challenges faced by provincial institutions in a timely manner and to remove bottlenecks hindering development projects. He also underscored that all approvals are made through transparency and mutual consultation to ensure effective utilisation of public resources.

He said that in line with the directives of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh chief minister, timely completion of development schemes remains the government’s top priority.

Shah warned that no negligence would be tolerated, and directed all departments concerned to immediately implement the approved projects to deliver swift public relief and accelerate the pace of development across the province.
