PESHAWAR: Lawyers here on Friday continued their boycott of court proceedings for the third consecutive day in protest against the arrest and alleged torture of Ali Zaman Advocate, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The protesting lawyers also staged a rally from the Peshawar High Court building to Assembly Chowk and blocked Khyber Road for all kinds of traffic.

The lawyers boycotted court proceedings against the alleged torture of Ali Zaman, disrupting judicial work as no lawyer appeared before the courts.

The lawyers took out a protest rally from the Peshawar High Court to Assembly Chowk while carrying banners and placards inscribed with various slogans.

Upon reaching Assembly Chowk, the lawyers blocked Khyber Road for all traffic.

Speaking on the occasion, Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai said that unconstitutional and unlawful actions were unacceptable.

He alleged that Ali Zaman had been taken into custody and subjected to torture.

He warned that a 48-hour deadline had been given for registration of an FIR into the incident, adding that the protest would be prolonged if the case was not registered.

Earlier, on the call of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, lawyers observed a boycott of court proceedings for the third consecutive day.

PHCBA President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai, General Secretary Ashfaq Dawoodzai, District Bar President Qaiser Zaman, bar council members Syed Mubashir Shah and Babar Khan Yousafzai, along with senior lawyers Ishaq Ali Qazi, Amjad Tanoli, Yasir Khattak and Abdul Muneem Khan addressed the protesters.

The lawyers stated that those who stood up for public rights were subjected to such tactics, adding that the alleged abduction of a senior lawyer posed a serious threat to the legal community and the justice system.

They maintained that unconstitutional actions would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
