HYDERABAD: Jamshoro police have registered an FIR in connection with the brutal abduction and murder of 26-year-old pregnant woman Sabreen alias Sabro Marwat, whose tortured body was recovered from a hilly area near the Indus Highway Thermal Power House in Jamshoro.

The case was lodged at the Jamshoro A-Section police station on the complaint of the victim’s husband, Babar Ali Marwat. The FIR nominates five known and eight unidentified suspects. The named accused include Mashooq, son of Ghafoor Khoso, Dadan, son of Lateef Khoso, Rato son of Nawaz Ali Khoso, Jani son of Basham Khoso, and Noro Khoso.

Sabro Pathan, also identified as Sabrin, daughter of Ghulam Rasool Marwat Pathan, earned her livelihood by selling clothes. She was allegedly abducted on February 1 from a hilly area of Jamshoro. Her family staged protests and repeatedly appealed to the police for her recovery.

Despite several days passing, no action led to her recovery. On February 9, her mutilated body was found near the Indus Highway Thermal Power House. Police said the woman was subjected to severe torture and killed by repeated blows to the head and face with stones. Her face was reportedly disfigured in an apparent attempt to conceal her identity. The body was later identified through her clothes and shifted to a hospital for a postmortem examination.

Police sources said that after the murder, several suspected individuals from Muhammad Khoso village vacated their houses and fled to unknown locations. Police intensified search and combing operations in the area on Wednesday and demolished some vacated houses during the crackdown.

The DIG Hyderabad and the SSP Jamshoro are supervising the operation, while SSP Hyderabad Adeel has been assigned to investigate the case. The DIG told media that during the Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, some facilitators who had blocked the Indus Highway were released to ensure smooth traffic flow for devotees, allegedly under pressure from influential persons.

He added that the SSP Hyderabad has been tasked with conducting an inquiry and that strict action will be taken if any Jamshoro police officials are found involved in the incident. SSP Jamshoro Siddiq Changa said he had been in Sehwan due to security duties for the Urs and initiated operations immediately upon his return on Tuesday. He vowed that the accused would be traced and arrested soon.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Action Forum (WAF) expressed profound grief and outrage over the incident, strongly condemning what it described as criminal negligence and serious inaction by the police.

In a statement, WAF said Sabrin, a mother of three originally from Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had gone missing ten days ago while selling clothes in Jamshoro’s hilly area. The forum stated that despite repeated complaints and protests by the family, police failed to take timely and effective action, resulting in her brutal torture and murder.

WAF demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved, disciplinary action by senior police officials against officers responsible for negligence, and full protection, justice, and support for the bereaved family. The forum reiterated that silence and delays in cases of violence against women amount to denial of justice and would not be tolerated.
