LAHORE: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has appreciated the Punjab government for organising a peaceful and well-coordinated Basant festival, saying it marked a positive step towards reviving cultural traditions while ensuring public safety.
The chamber urged the government to continue promoting safe, inclusive, and well-managed cultural festivals, noting that structured cultural exchange programmes under Pakistan-China cooperation frameworks could further strengthen people-to-people ties.
Nazir Hussain, president of the PCJCCI, said the smooth conduct of the festival reflected the government’s commitment to promoting cultural activities responsibly. He added that such events could boost domestic and international tourism and project a more positive image of Pakistan abroad.
The PCJCCI’s senior vice president said Basant could evolve into an internationally recognised cultural event if organised on a larger, institutionalised scale, with greater participation from foreign delegations, particularly from China.
Zafar Iqbal, vice president of the PCJCCI, said regular cultural festivals could also support local businesses, artisans, and the hospitality sector, while complementing economic cooperation under CPEC.The chamber expressed hope that the government would institutionalise such initiatives to promote tourism, social harmony and long-term economic growth.
