The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) observed a nationwide Day of Mourning on the third consecutive day on Sunday to protest against the cowardly terrorist attack at the Khadijatul Kubra mosque in Islamabad.

Condolence gatherings, protest demonstrations and rallies were organised at more than 50 locations, including district offices of the MWM’s Sindh chapter, and a large number of people participated in the events.

Speaking at the demonstrations, Allama Baqar Abbas Zaidi, Allama Hayat Abbas Najafi, Allama Sadiq Jafri and other MWM leaders strongly condemned the attack, saying that targeting innocent worshippers inside a sacred place like a mosque is an open act of terrorism.

They said that an even greater tragedy is the criminal silence and continued negligence shown by the federal government. The government has completely failed to protect the lives and properties of citizens, while terrorists belonging to proscribed outfits continue to roam freely in Islamabad and across the country, they added.

They also said that despite the spread of hate speech, sectarian statements and public gatherings by banned organisations, the government has proven incapable of taking effective action against them.

They stressed that this was not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing series of target killings, bomb blasts and attacks on religious sites, clearly indicating that the government’s response has been limited to mere statements and hollow claims.

According to the MWM leaders, extremist elements are being systematically nurtured in the country, with direct links to foreign intelligence agencies, including Israel’s Mossad and India’s RAW.

The speakers warned that if the state fails to fulfil its basic responsibility of protecting citizens, it must be held accountable. They asserted in strong words that they would not remain silent over the bloodshed of innocent victims.

They said the government must wake up, stop treating terrorist incidents as routine, and immediately conduct transparent investigations, arrest the real perpetrators and expose their facilitators.

They demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into the attack, justice and complete protection for the families of the martyrs, security of religious places, action against those responsible for failed security policies, and immediate arrest of agents of banned outfits spreading hatred and issuing blasphemous and sectarian edicts across Islamabad and the country. They concluded by saying that the MWM would continue to voice its concern for the oppressed, and its peaceful protest would continue until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
