Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) on Saturday observed a nationwide day of mourning to condemn the terrorist attack at Masjid and Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra in Islamabad.

Black flags had been hoisted at MWM provincial offices across the country, while fateha khwani, condolence references and protest activities were continuing in various districts.

MWM leaders said that proscribed takfiri groups, operating under new names, were continuing their subversive activities and pose a serious threat to national security and peace. They alleged that Islamabad had become a hub for such banned outfits, which were promoting sectarian hatred and extremism.

The leaders criticised the provision of government protocol to individuals raising takfiri slogans and delivering extremist speeches, saying such actions embolden miscreants. They also claimed that the intentions of those “speaking the Zionist language while living in Pakistan” had now become evident to the entire nation.

MWM said that had adequate security been provided by the administration at the Tarlai Imambargah, precious human lives could had been saved. The party demanded an immediate operation against banned takfiri groups in the federal capital.

Speaking in Karachi, MWM Sindh provincial leader Allama Hayat Abbas said terrorism cannot be eradicated unless “terror-producing factories” were shut down. He said that banned takfiri groups, despite changing their names, continued to operate and must be dealt with firmly. He termed the Islamabad incident a serious question mark on the performance of security institutions.

He further said that administrative patronage of takfiri slogans, extremist speeches and the granting of official protocol to their leaders amounts to encouraging anti-state elements. Until concrete action was taken, he added, government claims would remain mere lip service. He called for a comprehensive operation against takfiri groups in Islamabad and strict punishment for those involved.

Meanwhile, following the terrorist attack, MWM had announced a three-day mourning period. In this connection, black flags had been hoisted at Sindh and Karachi district offices, while condolence gatherings and fateha khwani had been organised for the martyrs.

Allama Hayat Abbas Najafi also participated in a protest rally organised by ISO Karachi, which proceeded from Masjid and Imambargah Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen to Johar Chowrangi, where he addressed the participants
