ISLAMABAD: Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Maqbool Ahmed Gondal paid an official visit to Peshawar, where he reviewed the performance, administrative affairs and ongoing reform initiatives of the Accounts and Audit Offices in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Upon arrival, he was received by KP Accountant General Khalid Mahmood, Deputy Auditor General (North) Shah Rehman, along with senior officers of the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service. During the visit, the AGP was briefed on existing and proposed reform measures aimed at modernising public financial management and strengthening governance in the province.
Highlighting importance of institutional reforms, the Auditor General said that the transition to a cashless system, implementation of e-Office, complete digitalisation of office processes, enhanced transparency, and the establishment of a robust accountability framework form the core pillars of the reform agenda. He stressed that effective and timely implementation of these measures was critical.
He said results-based performance would be prioritised and announced that he would personally monitor service delivery standards across the province. The AGP further clarified that responsibility would be fixed in cases of negligence or misconduct, while officers and offices demonstrating improved performance, innovation and practical reform initiatives would be duly encouraged.
The Auditor General also underscored the need for close coordination with the KP government and other relevant institutions, noting that stronger institutional linkages and collaboration were essential for building an efficient, responsive and modern public financial management system.
AGP Gondal appreciated the performance of the KP Accounts and Audit Offices and urged officers to sustain the momentum of reforms, uphold the highest standards of professional integrity and transparency, and align their work with national priorities on digital governance and financial discipline.
