LAHORE: The 49th EcoStar Aibak Cup has reached its climax, with Diamond Paints and FG Polo booking their places in the grand finale scheduled for Saturday (tomorrow) at the Lahore Polo Club.
The prestigious tournament, one of the highlights of Pakistan’s polo calendar, promises a thrilling contest between two sides in scintillating form.
The semifinals drew a vibrant crowd of families, polo enthusiasts, and socialites, adding to the festive atmosphere. Members of the club’s Executive Committee, Secretary Maj Amjad Ghafoor, and representatives from tournament sponsors DWP EcoStar were also in attendance, underscoring the event’s stature.
In the first semifinal, Diamond Paints delivered a commanding performance to defeat SQ Seagold 9–5. Lap Abelenda spearheaded the attack with four goals, while Mir Huzaifa Ahmed struck a hat-trick. Contributions from Muhammad Ali Malik and Raja Jalal Arslan sealed the victory. For SQ Seagold, Raja Samiullah scored twice, with Shiraz Qureshi, Bilal Haye, and Ahmed Ali Tiwana adding one goal each. The second semifinal was a tense, high-scoring affair that stretched across multiple days.
