RAWALPINDI: Police arrested a man carrying a loaded pistol close to the family of former prime minister Imran Khan during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest here on Tuesday.

Officers from Sadr Baironi Police Station identified a suspect, later named as Muhammad Arif from Multan, moving near Imran Khan’s sisters and several party lawmakers during the demonstration. Upon intervention, they recovered a loaded pistol and a magazine from his possession.

Arif was unable to provide a legal justification for carrying the weapon at the gathering. Authorities have formally charged him with illegal possession of a firearm and are investigating whether he acted alone or as part of a larger threat.

“The individual was in close proximity to the family members of the PTI founder, elevating this to a serious security concern,” a senior police official stated. A case has been registered and an expanded investigation is under way to determine Arif’s motives and possible connections.
